23-06-2008 Innovation China donates DKK 140,000 for earthquake relief



The employees themselves took the initiative for the collection.

 

Although Innovation’s Chinese subsidiary – Beijing Furniture International Co. or simply Innovation China – is located on the outskirts of Beijing, many kilometres from the epicentre of the violent earthquake that hit Sechuan province on 12 May, the tremors were nevertheless felt in its office. However, what shook the employees most and got them to do something about it was the plight of the people affected: orphaned children, helpless elderly people, families without a roof over their heads and whole towns threatened with flooding because the blocked-up rivers burst their banks.



The staff started a collection and finished up with DKK 15,500 plus DKK 35,000 from the staff association coffers, which was actually earmarked for the big summer party. Innovation China’s managing director, Yang Jianwei, therefore chose to support the collection by adding another DKK 90,000. Altogether, RMB 200,000 or slightly more than DKK 140,000 has now been handed over to the Chinese Red Cross:



“The employees themselves took the initiative for the collection. It was good-hearted of them. In relation to Chinese salaries, that was a lot of money they managed to collect, and they are doing without their big summer party too. The staff association had received DKK 35,000 that was actually supposed to be spent on the party, but the staff took a vote on what to do with the money. Almost everyone voted to donate the money to the victims of the earthquake instead.”



Innovation China’s main building. The company has just acquired a new football pitch and extension, which will be used for purposes including social activities and photo shoots. The next item is a refurbishment of the offices and factory premises, where the staff themselves are involved in setting the agenda.
