Shanghai Imported Medical Devices More YOY in First Half 2017

According to Shanghai Customs statistics, in the first half of this year, Shanghai Customs District imported medical devices totaling RMB 15.5 billion yuan, 24.6% more year-on-year (YOY).
Characteristics of the Import to Shanghai:
(1) Single-month import value rose YOY for 25 consecutive months, a record high hit this June.
Since June 2015, the import value has been risen YOY for 25 consecutive months. Among them, the value reached 3.21 billion yuan this June, up 19.9% from this May and up 28.6% YOY, hitting single-month record high.
(2) Over 60% were imported under Customs special control, less by processing trade.
This first half year, under Customs special control, the import reached 9.55 billion yuan, up 23.4% YOY, accounting for 61.6% of the total import; by ordinary trade, the import reached 5.78 billion yuan, up 30.5% YOY, accounting for 37.3%; by processing trade, the import 150 million yuan, down 0.8% YOY.
(3) Mainly imported by foreign-invested enterprises, and the proportion of state-owned enterprises increased.
This first half year, Shanghai-based foreign-invested enterprises imported medical devices worth 10.6 billion yuan, up 25.6% YOY, accounting for 68.4% of the total import; state-owned enterprises imported 2.72 billion yuan worth, a substantial increase of 44.2%, accounting for 17.5%; private enterprises imported 2.19 billion yuan worth, up 3.4%, accounting for 14.1%.
(4) Mostly imported from USA and EU, more from Mexico and ASEAN.
This first half year, medical devices from United States reached 4.88 billion yuan, up 21.6% YOY, accounting for 31.5%; from EU reached 4.57 billion yuan, up 18.2% YOY, accounting for 29.5%; from Japan reached 2.09 billion yuan, up 23.2% YOY. In addition, the import from Mexico reached 1.75 billion yuan, up 28.4% YOY; from ASEAN reached 720 million yuan, up 41% YOY.
(5) Endoscope was the largest import device, stitching needle imported double.
This first half year, imported endoscopes reached 1.62 billion yuan, up 17.5% YOY, as the largest import device; ophthalmological devices reached 800 million yuan, up 16.3% YOY; stitching needles reached 600 million yuan, a surge of 5.8 times YOY.
