Shanghai-EU Trade Value Up 16.4% YOY in 2017

According to Shanghai Customs statistics, in 2017, Shanghai export-import trade with the EU totaled 1.24 trillion yuan, up 16.4% over 2016, accounting for 20.8% of gross Shanghai-foreign trade, making EU the largest trading partner. Therein, export to EU reached 659.49 billion yuan, up 13.1%, accounting for 18.8% of total export value, making EU the second-largest export market; import from EU reached 580.68 billion yuan, up 20.3% YOY, accounting for 23.5% of total import value, making EU the largest import market; trade surplus was 78.81 billion yuan, down 21.5% YOY.

Export to EU: In 2017, electromechanical products reached 383.84 billion yuan, up 16.7%, accounting for 58.2% of the total export. Among them, automatic data processing equipment and components worth 51.04 billion yuan, up 23.2%; telephone sets worth 27.72 billion yuan, up 1.8 times. Over the same period, seven categories of traditional labor-intensive products such as clothing, textiles, furniture, plastic products, luggage, footwear and toys totaled 180.83 billion yuan, up 5.6%. (clothing and accessories totaled 101.38 billion yuan, up 3.3%; textile yarns and fabrics reached 35.2 billion yuan, up 5.5%.

Import from EU: In 2017, motor vehicles worth 73.44 billion yuan, up 19.9%, accounting for 12.6% of the total import; pharmaceuticals and medical devices worth 56.77 billion yuan and 9.83 billion yuan respectively, up 25.8% and 11% respectively; measurement/testing instruments worth 25.7 billion yuan, up 19.4%; unwrought copper and copper products worth 13.08 billion yuan, up 79%.
