China-to-U.S. Export of Goods Grows Slower in First-Half 2018

According to preliminary statistics of China Customs, in the first half of this year, China’s export of goods to United States grew by 5.4% year-on-year (the same hereinafter), getting slower by 13.9 percentage points than the first half of 2017; this June alone, the export to United States grew by 3.8% year-on-year, slower by 23.8 percentage points than last June.

In the first half 2018, China's export of electro-mechanical products to the United States grew by 8% and accounted for 62.6% of the total exports to the United States; among them, export of automatic data processing equipment and its components increased by 3.6%, and export of mobile phones increased by 5.5%. During the same period, the total export value of 7-categories traditional labor-intensive products was basically equal to the corresponding period of last year; among them, export of garments and clothing accessories fell by 1.8%, while export of furniture and its components increased by 2.5%.

This June alone, the export of electro-mechanical products to the United States grew by 4%; among them, export of automatic data processing equipment and its components fell by 6.6%, and export of mobile phones fell by 7.1%. During the same period, export of traditional labor-intensive products increased by 3.5% while export of agricultural products dipped by 0.9%.
