Guangdong Province Import Dairy Products Increased in Jan-May 2017

According to China Customs statistics, from January to May this year, Guangdong Province imported 144,000 tons of dairy products, up 9.1% year-on-year (YOY); worth CNY 4.99 billion, up 62.8% YOY; import price at 35,000 yuan per ton, up 49.2% YOY.

Characteristics of Guangdong Import of Dairy Products in Jan-May:

(1) May import up in quantity and price. This year’s import was steady, 32,000 tons in January, hitting the peak, then down slightly below 30,000 tons. In May, the quantity reached 29,000 tons, up 35.2% YOY and 5.5% from April; average import price went up since January, at 38,000 yuan/ton in May, up 58.9% YOY and up 3% from April. (2) Import by private enterprises accounted for half. This May, private enterprises in Guangdong imported 15,000 tons, up 27.5% YOY, accounting for 50.3% of the total; foreign-invested enterprises imported 14,000 tons, up 53.2% YOY, accounting for 46.2%; state-owned enterprises imported 1,000 tons, down 19% YOY, accounting for 3.5%.

(3) Ordinary trade dominated the import on a larger increase. This May, Guangdong imported dairy products 28,000 tons by ordinary trade, up 54.5% YOY, accounting for 95.7% of the total import.

(4) Import from EU dominated on a rapid increase. This May, Guangdong imported 12,000 tons from the EU, an increase of 70.5% YOY, accounting for 42.4% of the total import; imported 8,948 tons from New Zealand, up 16.7% YOY, accounting for 30.4%; 3,781 tons from Australia, up 62.7% YOY.
