China Calls for Proper Settlement of Disputes Over U.S. Anti-dumping Duties on Chinese Shrimp

The United States violated WTO rules and levied high anti-dumping duties on imports of warm water shrimp from China, said the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on February 28, 2011.
The United States announced anti-dumping measures on warm water shrimp from China on December 8, 2004, according to a statement on the MOC website posted late on Monday night.
After the ruling, Chinese exporters appealed three times against the anti-dumping measures to the U.S. Court of International Trade. The tariff rates were finalized on July 29, 2010. last year.
The United States violated WTO rules when it levied high anti-dumping duties, thereby impairing the interest of the Chinese shrimp producers, the statement said.
The United States failed to tackle the key problems eyed by China despite negotiations made by the Chinese government on different occasions and strong opposition from domestic Chinese producers, the statement said.
China is opposed to the abuse of trade remedy measures and hopes that the dispute would be tackled under the WTO dispute settlement mechanism soon, the statement said.
