China Opposes EU Fine Paper Duties

The EU has imposed anti-subsidy and anti-dumping duties on coated fine paper from China. The levies, which went into effect on May 15, 2011, will last five years. In response to this decision, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has expressed firm opposition through its website.

The published statement says the EU ruling contravenes WTO rules, and seriously impairs the interests of Chinese enterprises.

The text adds that China will carefully study and evaluate the final ruling, and reserve the right to take legal action. Coated fine paper is a product used for high-quality printing.

The ministry says the central government and domestic enterprises can provide ample evidence proving the industry is highly competitive in China, with market economy principles applied, and government intervention non-existent.
