Hong Kong suspended import of poultry products from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the city's government announced on Dec. 22, 2012.
According to the Center for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of Hong Kong, the Center has suspended processing applications for import of all poultry and poultry products, including poultry eggs, from the Province of Schleswig-Holstein with immediate effect until further notice.
A CFS spokesman said, "The decision was made after receiving notification from the World Organization for Animal Health about an outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza H5 in a farm detected in Schleswig-Holstein."
"We are seeking further information from the relevant German authority and will closely monitor the situation," he added.
