As shown by statistics from Xiamen Customs of China, since the arrival of the summer peak of power consumption in May 2010, the import quantity of thermal coal supervised by Xiamen Customs grew dramatically for 2 consecutive months.

In June and July 2010, the import quantity respectively totaled 739,000 tons and 915,000 tons, respectively up 44.1% and 23.8% month-on-month.

In order to accelerate the Customs inspection and clearance of thermal coal and realize optimized supervision, Xiamen Customs adopted Customs clearance measures such as "Customs declaration in advance, releasing real products" and shipside Customs inspection and clearance round-the-clock so as to realize unloading upon docking of ships carrying thermal coal and guarantee the production demand of coal electricity.

Meanwhile, Xiamen Customs also designated Customs officers as contacts of enterprises to timely know about the demand of power-generation enterprises and arranged the staff to work overtime to guarantee a smooth Customs clearance, which greatly improved the efficiency of Customs clearance.
