The European Commission announced on June 19 that it will initiate anti-dumping investigations into ceramic tiles imported from China, according to the Ministry of Commerce. This is the largest anti-dumping investigation that the Chinese ceramic industry has ever faced.

According to sources, most of the Chinese ceramic tile enterprises involved are from Foshan in Guangdong province.

This is the sixth anti-dumping investigation that the Chinese ceramic industry has faced in the last 10 years. The European Union anti-dumping investigation procedures usually last one year and no more than 15 months. The European Union can take temporary anti-dumping measures before formally deciding whether to levy anti-dumping duties.

The Ministry of Commerce disclosed that China had exported 310 million U.S. dollars of ceramic tiles to Europe in 2009. According to sources, the China Ceramic Industry Association and relevant enterprises, as well as officials from the Ministry of Commerce gathered in Foshan, Guangdong on June 22 in order to discuss related matters.
