According to the Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau of Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, China-Costa Rica Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will come into effect from August 1, 2011, when Taizhou's certain exports as valves can start to enjoy "zero tariff" treatment by Costa Rica based on relevant Certificates of Origin.

Last April, China signed the FTA with Costa Rica located in Central America, announcing mutual zero-tariff treatment gradually for no less than 90% of goods from August 1, 2011.

Therein, China's textile raw materials and products, light industrial products, machinery, electrical apparatus, vegetables, fruits, automobiles, chemicals, pelts and leathers and Costa Rica's coffee, beef, pork, pineapple juice, frozen orange juice, jam, fish meals, minerals, and raw hides, will respectively benefit from the lowering of tariffs.

It is reported by the Bureau that, upon the FTA effectiveness, Taizhou's exports to Costa Rica, like valves and plastics, can enjoy tariff preferences to some extent based on the FTA-covered Certificates of Origin, which exporters are required to submit during customs clearance for any tariff preferences.
