Recently, the European Union started an investigation into ceramic tableware imported from China. Over 2,000 Chinese companies (75 companies in Xiamen included) and an amount of US $700 million get involved, which has become the biggest anti-dumping case in the ceramic industry.

Xiamen Johnchina Fine Polishing Tech Co, Ltd, a company specializing in ceramic knives and other products exported to the European market, is involved in the largest amount at USD 5.29 million.

In 2011, the export value of ceramic tableware of the relevant 75 companies reached $ 16.9 million, accounting for 29% in the Xiamen ceramic tableware exports. Xiamen exported USD 330 million worth of ceramic products, accounting for 1% of the total export volume in Xiamen in 2011. According to an insider, the anti-dumping measures have made it more difficult for the Xiamen ceramic industry to expand its European market.

According to the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce, five involved companies in Xiamen have decided to defend themselves, which means that the rest 70 companies have given up the European market. Generally, an anti-dumping investigation will take 1 year to 1 year and a half time, and the result cannot be predicted.

The ceramic products are Xiamen's traditional export products, and the ceramic products exported to the EU take up 21.9 percent in the total export amount of Xiamen's ceramic products.

In recent years, the European Union, Korea, Thailand and Indonesia have imposed anti-dumping duties on China's ceramic exports.
