EU AD Probe on Solar Panels from China

[2012-09-07 15:01:19]

Reported by the Financial Times of September 6, the EU has started an antidumping (AD) probe into Chinese makers of solar cell panels. If the Chinese solar makers are evidenced of low-priced dumping, the EU will impose punitive tariff on the solar panels importing from China.

Reportedly, though German Chancellor Merkel hopes to resolve trade disputes through dialogue rather than tariffs, EU trade officials insist that the antidumping probe is a must if the trade appeal complies with relevant criteria.

In July, the German company SolarWorld filed its trade complaint, accusing Chinese rivals of undercutting prices unfairly on the EU market.

The antidumping appeal has also sparked divergence within the EU solar industry. Some solar panel assemblers fear that, by punishing Chinese products, their costs will be heightened and ultimately European will lose more job chances.
