WTO Bans Chinese Import Duties on U.S. Steel

China lost an appeal on Oct. 18, 2012 when the World Trade Organization ruled that China had no legal basis to impose anti-dumping duties on U.S. electrical steel imports.

The WTO upheld its earlier ruling of June 2012. Then, it said that China had breached trade rules by not providing sufficient evidence for imposing the duties.

Grain-oriented flat-rolled electical steel is mainly used in the cores of high-efficiency transformers. China's Ministry of Commerce had no immediate comment on the ruling.
