Turkey Prolongs Safeguard Measures on Import Polyethylene Terephthalate

On October 7, 2014, Turkey notified to the WTO's Safeguard Committee that it has decided to prolong the safeguard measures on import of polyethylene terephthalate by three years, including the first year (November 8, 2014-November 7, 2015) rate is 6.75%, the second year (November 8, 2015-November 7, 2016) rate is 6.65%, and the third year (November 8, 2016-November 7, 2017) rate is 6.55%; the above measures will take effect on November 8, 2014. However, some developing countries like the Philippines and South Africa are not taxed. The products involved are under HS code 3907.60.20.00.00.

In March 2011, Turkey started the probe into polyethylene terephthalate for safeguard measures; In September 2011, Turkey made the final ruling on the case. In July 2014, Turkish launched the sunset review for the case.
