From January 1, 2010, the import duty of Myanmar's ICT products will be cut to zero, said the Officer of Myanmar Customs.

According to ASEAN trade agreement, the tariff on ICT products will be cut in three degrees until lowered to zero. Six old ASEAN member countries carry out the tariff cut in 2003, 2004 and 2005 three periods. The other four new ASEAN member countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) will finish the tariff cut in 2010. The ICT products include all the commodity related to the information, communications and technology. Myanmar lowered the tariff on 92 varieties in 2008 and 55 varieties in 2009. This is the third time for Myanmar to cut tariff to lower all the rest ICT products to zero.

According to the president of Myanmar Computer Association, after the tariff on ICT products lowered to zero, the customers can buy the products at cheaper price, but with the rapid technology update in electronic products, the price for high technology products remains high, just the import duty to be exempted.
