According to the report from Philippines, to relieve electric power shortage in South Island, Board of Investment of Philippines plans to bring the policy of importing motor for duty free to the "Preferential Plan for Investment" in 2010. Due to effects of the weather phenomenon known as El Nino, Philippines encountered with serious drought. The 6 water power plants in Mindanao could only generate electricity in 150MW, with the electricity shortage of 700MW, and Philippines President Gloria Arroyo had announced this area was in disaster condition. The official in Board of Investment of Philippines said that they expected to encourage enterprises to import more generating equipments to solve the electricity shortage problem in South Island through the promulgation of this preferential policy.
