The Philippines to Remove Import Tariff on Teaching Books

According to a report on April 30, 2010 from the Philippines' Manila Bulletin, proposed by the Philippine Tariff Commission and approved by the National Economic and Development Authority of the Philippines, zero tariff will be applied to the import of teaching books to the Philippines, which include books on science and technology, history and culture, dictionaries, encyclopedia, drawing books for children, music and maps, etc. Head of the Department of Trade and Industry of the Philippines, Mr. Lapus, said that this is to make books affordable to students and to improve the quality of domestic book publishing.
