Ecuador Lowered Import Tariff on Footwear, Textiles

Ecuador issued an official announcement, deciding to lower the import tariff on footwear and textiles, which shall be implemented from May 28, 2010.

Since October 2007, the Ecuador Customs has levied an import tariff of 30% on both footwear and textile products. From January 2009, a special protectionist tariff was added on this basis, with each pair of footwear subject to a surcharge of USD 10 while each kilogram of textiles subject to a surcharge of USD 12.

As of June 2010, Ecuador will levy a tariff of 10% on footwear with a surcharge of USD 6 for each pair, and the tariff on textiles will be 10% with a surcharge of USD 5.5 for each kilogram.
