President Mohamed Nasheed of Maldives recently approved a proposal from the Cabinet, deciding to reduce the tariff by 30% as of July 1, 2010 on imports at some ports in the southern and northern provinces.
This move mainly aims at encouraging the local ports to improve the cargo throughput so as to alleviate the freight pressure at Male port.
