The Government of the Philippines Plans to Increase MFN Tariff on Imported Automobile Parts and Ethanol

On November 30, 2010, a report from the Philippine Business Mirror said that the Government of the Philippines was now making assessment on the MFN tariff in the following 5 years and would increase import tariff on parts of the imported automobile parts and ethanol. Mara Rit, Chairman of the Philippine Tariff Commission, indicated that the 95% of the MFN tariff rate under 10,000 HS Codes in Philippines would be kept the current degree; only the products under 4 HS Codes, including the tariff rate of automobile parts, especially the storage battery and reversing sensor and ethanol, would be increased. Recently, the import tariff in Philippines on automobile parts and ethanol is only 1%. The Philippine Association of Ethanol Production suggests that they increase the import tariff on ethanol to 20%.
