[2010-12-01 16:06:59]

On November 30, 2010, a report from the Philippine Star, officials from the Philippine Department of Agriculture said that the Philippine Government planned to increase the import tariff on haslet to 5% in response to the request from pig breeding industry. The Philippine Department of Agriculture is now making a research of the feasibility of increasing the import tariff on haslet and will submit their suggestion to the Philippine Tariff Commission.

Before this, the Pig Industry of the Philippines complained that the large low-cost haslet imports have greatly influenced the local pig industry. The Philippines reduced the import tariff on haslet to below 5% since January, 2004. The statistics from the Philippines Bureau of Animal indicated that Philippines had imported 48,450 tons of haslet till November this year.
