The Philippines House of Representatives Plans to Increase Tax on Cigarette

On November 30, 2010, a report from the Philippine Manila Standard said that the Philippines House of Representatives planned to hold the hearing of imposing tax on health damaging so as to increase the government tax and reduce the social costs of smoking. Belmont, the Philippine House Speaker says that the main subject of this hearing is to redefine the tax rate of cigarette and liquor.

There are 32.90 million smokers in Philippines, its smoking rate ranking the second in Southeast Asia.
