Uzbekistan Plans to Cancel Customs Import VAT Preferences on Part of Medicines

According to recent reports by overseas media, from January 1, 2011, Uzbekistan plans to cancel preferences for customs import value-added tax on part of medicines, whose capacity in Uzbekistan can satisfy local demands. This move aims at supporting Uzbekistan's pharmaceutical enterprises.
"UzFarmIndustry" State Joint Stock Company and Uzbekistan's Ministry of Health are now jointly formulating the list of relevant medicines.
It is reported that the Uzbekistan pharmaceutical industry only satisfies 10% to 15% of the domestic demands; only 10% of the medicines for the system of the Uzbekistan's Ministry of Health come from domestic purchase, all of the rest from imports.
