Venezuela Cancels Import Tariff on 27 Types of Daily Necessities

The Venezuelan Government recently announced to cancel all or some of the import tariffs on 27 types of daily necessities, including live cattle, fresh and frozen processed beef, a variety of wheat products, garlic, cotton, broccoli, onion, cauliflower, sunflower, lettuce, corn, soybean, tomato, carrot seed, kidney bean, lentil, pea, milk, protein concentrates, infant formula, etc.

To enjoy the tariff relief, importers shall apply to food authorities and submit certificate of non domestic or underproduction to customs authorities. As to imported raw-material products, relevant information of the end products to be produced shall also be submitted; as to imported end products, relevant information of sales outlets shall be provided.

The decree comes into force as from March 4, 2011 for one year and is deferrable.
