According to Tajikistan's "Asia News" on March 6, 2011, Tajikistan is considering temporary export tariff on cotton, the tariff rate to be released in May 2011 as planned.

According to prediction from its Ministry of Energy & Industry, the export tariff rate will be up to 20%.

It is reported that Tajikistan imposing of this temporary export tariff is based on the continuous rise in international cotton prices and the protection of local textile enterprises under short supply of raw materials.

Besides, Tajikistan is also considering cancelling sales tax of 10% on domestic cotton mills so as to improve their export competitiveness of cotton textiles.
