Egypt Increases Export Tariff on Marbles

[2011-06-23 17:12:44]

Sameer El-Sayyad, Egyptian Minister of Industry & Foreign Trade, recently stated that Egypt will increase export tariff from EGP 80 to EGP 150 per ton on stone goods including marbles and granites.

Egyptian stone exporters disagree with the decision, they worry this measure will cause the decrease in exports and loss of markets. Sameer El-Sayyad therefore said that Egyptian government will take necessary measures to import foreign advanced technology and support manufacturers, exporters and investors of stone industry to improve the quality of products to better meet overseas markets' demands like China and Italy.

China is Egypt's largest stone export market, and Egypt's exports to China accounted for 33% of its total exports.
