Uzbekistan Adjusts Agricultural Imp. & Exp. Tariffs

Imports:

From July 1, 2011, Uzbekistan raises tariff rates on certain food imports; therein, the import tariff rate on chicken and turkey meat is 30% but not lower than one US dollar per kg (previously it was not lower than USD 0.25 per kg);

That on subcutaneous fat of pigs is 30% but not lower than one US dollar per kg ( previously it was not lower than USD 0.3 per kg);

That on cheese is increased from 5% to 30% but not lower than two US dollars per kg;

That on sausages and similar products is increased from 10% to 30% but not lower than two US dollars per kg;

That on bread and candy products is 30% but not lower than one US dollar per kg.

Besides, import tariff rates on some other commodities are raised as well, therein, the import tariff rate on electric teakettles is 30% but not lower than five US dollars each;

That on filament lamps is 30%, but the lowest tariff changes from 0.5 US dollar each to 0.17 US dollar each according to the power;

That on discharge lamps is 30% but not lower than one US dollar each.

Exports:

The Government of Uzbekistan has decided to continue monopolizing the exports of fresh fruits and vegetables by the government before the end of 2009. In June 2008, the government decided to monopolize the exports of fresh fruit and vegetable, melons and grapes by Uzulgurjisavdoinvest and the stated-owned joint-stock company, Matlubotsavdo, and their branches having the status of a legal entity.

Dry fruits and frozen fruits, vegetable, all kinds of melons and gourds, grapes and bean products can be exported independently by legal entities.

In 2008, output of its fruits/vegetables was 6.62 million tons, that of melons/gourds 980,000 tons, and grape 790,000 tons.

The country exports around 500,000 tons of fruits/vegetables to CIS (the Commonwealth of the Independent States) each year, mainly to Russia and Kazakhstan.
