Vietnam Adjusts Goods Imp. & Exp. Tariffs

According to Vietnam Economy on August 4, 2011, Vietnam Ministry of Finance recently released a notice, 108/2011/TT-BTC, on adjusting import and export tariffs on several commodities.

Some export tariffs are raised. For instance, export tariff on coals is up-adjusted to 20% from 15%, those on lead and aluminum ingots are up to 15% from 5%; those on zinc ingots and tin ingots up to 10% from 5%; and those on cab-o-sil, natural talc ores, railroad ties, electric traction lines, refined coppers, unwrought copper alloy up to 20% from 15%.

Some import tariffs are lowered. For instance, the import tariffs on all kinds of conduits, polypropylene pipes and couplings are lowered from 17% to 12%, and those on metal and wood auxiliary materials for shoemaking lowered from 20% to 15%.

Besides, according to its notice 91/2011/TT/BT, from August 4, 2011, Vietnam will raise tariffs 4-to-20 percentage points on imports that are not encouraged.
