Russia Levies 5% Extra Import Tariff on Tablet Computers

According to Russian "Kommersant" on October 24, Russia Customs declared levy of extra import tariff of 5% on tablet computers having built-in GPS, which are not only computers but also navigators, including iPad2 and Galaxy Tab.

This measure has influenced iPad2 market price. With strong USD exchange rate, currently iPad2 retail price has risen by at least RUB 4,000.

It is reported that the extra import tariff, whose ceiling is set to 25%, aims at supporting Glonass, Russian own satellite navigation system.
