ECC Mulls Ban on CNG Kits, Impose Import Duty in Pakistan

[2011-12-15 09:52:05]

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) is actively considering to completely ban CNG kits, factory fitted CNG kits or to introduce customs duty on import of CNG kits currently imported at zero percent.

Although the ECC decision on fate of CNG kits and further slide in rupee are the two factors to cast a dampening effect on the auto industry yet the possibility of imposing duty is the most likely decision to come out by the end of the month, sources said.

Recent rupee depreciation against US$ is another key factor forcing local automobile companies to go for an increase in car prices. As an impact of rupee depreciation the Indus Motors has already increased their prices by Rs15, 000 to 30,000 to counter the impact of currency depreciation while other automakers to follow suit in coming few days, sources said.
