Bahamas Slashes Some Import Duties from July 2012

Reportedly, Bahamas government has decided to cut down on some of import duty rates from July 1, 2012 according to its 2012-2013 budget bill, as follows:

The duty rates on solar and wind electric generators are slashed from 45% to 10%, comparable to that of other generators and solar equipment;

The duty rates on plastic and steel doors are slashed from 35% and 25% respectively to 10%, the same as that of wood and aluminum doors;

The duty rate on body lotions is reduced from 45% to 25%, the same as other health products;

The duty rate on toothbrushes is cut from 45% to zero, the same as toothpastes;

The duty rate on hospital ECG equipment is cut from 35% to zero, the same as nephrosis treatment equipment whose filter parts also have zero duty cut from 45%.

The rate 35% reduced from 40% is applied to air conditioner parts/accessories and animal foods;

Zero import duty cut from 45% is applied to rubber nipples and breast pumps;

The rate 45% is applied to biodiesel.
