Papua New Guinea Lowers Sugar Import Duty

[2012-08-28 14:51:19]

Reported by Papua New Guinean newspaper of August 24, the Papua New Guinea (PNG) government has recently lowered sugar import duty from 70% to 35%.

The PNG’s New Britain Palm Oil Company Limited thinks that, based on international sugar price fall by 30%, the governmental move benefits overseas exporters and makes domestic agricultural exporters suffer loss from the weakened duty protection, leaving native sugar production in peril.
