Reported by Philippine newspaper, the Philippine government plans to give duty-free treatment to U.S.-made textiles, yarns, and shell fabrics in exchange for Philippine duty-free access to U.S. market of apparels.

According to Philippine commerce officials, at present, a Philippine apparel maker is allowed to import 70% of its raw materials from the U.S. without duty payment, given its export of apparels to the American market.

It is said that the U.S. textile industry is striving to cash in on the emerging Philippine market, expecting U.S. textile materials to enter without duty, and as a return, the U.S. authority will remove import duty from Philippine-made apparels.
