South Africa Cancels Antidumping on Brazil Boneless Frozen Chicken

[2013-01-07 15:13:50]

Recently, South Africa canceled the anti-dumping investigation on full boneless frozen chicken from Brazil.

Reportedly, the South Africa International Trade Commission holds that South African chicken industry is greatly affected by all the chicken imports rather than those merely from Brazil.

In February 2012, the South Africa Government respectively levied the temporary anti-dumping duties at 62.93% and 46.59% on full chicken and cut chicken, besides the normal tariffs of 5% and 27% respectively.

Brazil Ministry of Agriculture believed that the South African anti-dumping duty was cursory and did not meet the WTO rules; And if this decision was maintained, a dangerous industrial precedent will be set up.

Therefore, Brazil submitted consultation application to the WTO dispute settlement body for the South African anti-dumping measures.
