Pakistan to Lower Import Duty on Hybrid Electric Vehicles

 
According to Pakistani news, the Pakistan's federal tax agency is considering reduction of import duty rate on hybrid electric vehicles so as to encourage hybrid electric vehicle consumption and relieve oil supply pressure.

At present, comprehensive import tax on hybrid electric vehicles is about 75%; high price is restraining their market development in Pakistan. From November 2011 to December 2012, the import quantity is only 2,000 vehicles.

The Federal tax agency plans to reduce the comprehensive tax to 37%, but this policy can take into effect only if permitted by the Economic Coordination Committee of Pakistan.
