Jamaica to Quit Solar Equipment & LED Lamp Import Duties

[2014-03-10 10:52:53]

According to Jamaican newspaper, Jamaican Minister of Energy recently revealed that the Jamaican cabinet has decided to revoke the import duties on solar energy equipment and LED lamps.

In 2013, Jamaica exempted some energy-efficient equipment from Caribbean uniform import duties and also exempted wind turbine, solar cell and solar water pump from general consumption tax, demonstrating its determination to grow energy-efficient industries and renewable resources.

Now, the country is cooperating with the Inter-American Development Bank on an energy-saving project, with a total investment of USD 20 Million, in a bid to lower the electricity price from $0.38-0.42/KWh to $0.15-0.18/KWh.
