China’s Foreign Trade Up Fast YOY in Jan-Oct 2017

According to China Customs statistics, in January-October this year, China's foreign trade in goods totaled 22.52 trillion yuan, up 15.9% year-on-year (YOY), including export value at 12.41 trillion yuan, up 11.7% and import value 10.11 trillion yuan, up 21.5%, with trade surplus 2.3 trillion yuan, down 17.8%.
For October alone, China's total export-import value was 2.24 trillion yuan, up 10.2% YOY, including export value 1.25 trillion yuan, up 6.1% and import value 994 billion yuan, up 15.9%, with trade surplus 254.47 billion yuan, down 20.3%.
Exports, mainly electromechanical products and traditional labor-intensive products, as below:
In the 10 months, export of electromechanical products reached 7.16 trillion yuan, up 12.4%, accounting for 57.7% of the total export; therein, electrical and electronic products worth 3.19 trillion yuan, up 10.3% and machinery equipment worth 2.09 trillion yuan, up 14.8%. In the same period, export of apparel reached 888.03 billion yuan, up 3.2%; textile products worth 612.41 billion yuan, up 7.5%; footwear worth 273.44 billion yuan, up 8.8%; furniture worth 275.31 billion yuan, up 9.5%; plastic products worth 214.01 billion yuan, up 13.8%; bags worth 149.08 billion yuan, up 13.1%; toys worth 137.48 billion yuan, up 43.7%; the above seven labor-intensive products totaled 2.55 trillion yuan, up 8.6%, accounting for 20.5%. In addition, exported fertilizers totaled 21.1 million tons, down 7%; steel products 64.49 million tons, down 30.4%; automobiles totaled 820,000, an increase of 43.8%.
Imports, more in iron ore, crude oil and gas, as below:
In the 10 months, import of iron ore reached 896 million tons, up 6.3%, average import price at 488.9 yuan per ton, up 36.2%; crude oil reached 349 million tons, up 11.8%, average import price at 2567.9 yuan per ton, up 31.5%; refined oil reached 24.35 million tons, up 4.7%, import price at 3248.3 yuan per ton, up 26.7%; natural gas reached 54.16 million tons, up 24.9%, import price at 2250.5 yuan per ton, up 14.1%; primary plastics 23.38 million tons, up 13.1%, import price at 11,400 yuan per ton, up 8.8%; steels 10.96 million tons, up 0.5%, average import price at 7629.8 yuan per ton, up 17.2%; copper products 3.76 million tons, down 7.8%, average import price at 44,400 yuan per ton, up 29.5%. In addition, import of electromechanical products reached 4.66 trillion yuan, an increase of 14.9%, including 1.01 million automobiles, an increase of 19.6%.
