China’s Import-Export Value Up 0.7% for Jan-Feb 2019

According to China Customs statistics, in the first two months of this year, the total value of China's import and export of goods was 4.54 trillion yuan, an increase of 0.7% year over year (YOY). Therein, export value was 2.42 trillion yuan, up 0.1%; import value was 2.12 trillion yuan, up 1.5%; trade surplus was 308.68 billion yuan, narrowing 8.7% YOY.

In February alone, China’s total import-export value was 1.81 trillion yuan, down 9.4% YOY. Therein, export value was 922.76 billion yuan, down 16.6%; import value was 888.3 billion yuan, down 0.3%; trade surplus was 34.46 billion yuan, narrowing 84%. Excluding the Spring Festival effects, the import-export total, export and import increased by 10.2%, 7.8% and 12.9% YOY respectively.

In
US dollar terms, in the first two months, China’s total import-export value was 662.72 billion dollars, down 3.9% YOY. Therein, export value was 353.21 billion dollars, down 4.6%; import was 309.51 billion dollars, down 3.1%; trade surplus was 43.7 billion dollars, narrowing 13.6%.

In February alone, the total import-export value was 266.36 billion dollars, down 13.8% YOY. Therein, export value was 135.24 billion dollars, down 20.7%; import was 131.12 billion dollars, down 5.2%; trade surplus was 4.12 billion dollars, narrowing 87.2%. Excluding the Spring Festival effects, the import-export total, export and import increased by 3.9%, 1.5% and 6.5% YOY respectively.
