Tianjin Export of Rare Earth: Increased YOY in Jan-April 2019

According to China Customs statistics, in the first four months, Tianjin Port exported 6,678 tons of rare earth, an increase of 3.3% over the same period last year (YOY), valued at 290 million yuan, up 21.6%, and average export price at 43,000 yuan per ton, up 17.8%.

In April alone, the export volume was 1,816 tons, an increase of 4.5% year-on-year and a drop of 0.9% from the previous month (month-on-month), with average export price at 52,000 yuan per ton, up 27.7% year-on-year and up 62.2% month-on-month.

In Jan-April, Tianjin exported 3,189 tons of rare earth to Japan, an increase of 13.6% YOY, and exported 2,067 tons to the United States, an increase of 36.9%. Together, the two markets accounted for 78.7% of the total export.

In China, rare earth industry regulation, with mining volume limited, is driving up the market price of rare earth.
