Guangdong’s Medical Devices Import Up Largely in October 2017

According to Guangdong Customs statistics, from January to October 2017, Guangdong Province imported medical devices totaling 4.98 billion Yuan, up 25.2% year-on-year (YOY). In October alone, the import reached 540 million Yuan, up 80.4% YOY.

Characteristics of Guangdong import of medical devices in October:

(1) October’s import value increased sharply (YOY), down slightly (MOM). Since 2017, Guangdong’s medical devices import has maintained an overall growth, except January and May. In October alone, the import value was 540 million Yuan, up 80.4% YOY, down 19.8% MOM.
 

(2) Ordinary trade accounted for 90% of the import. In October, Guangdong imported 480 million Yuan medical devices by ordinary trade, up 92.4% YOY, accounting for 89.4% of the total import value. In addition, Guangdong imported 40 million Yuan by processing trade, up 10.3% YOY, accounting for 6.7%; imported 20 million Yuan under Customs special control, up 32.9% YOY, accounting for 3.8%.

(3) European Union and the United States were the main sources of the import. In October, Guangdong imported 200 million Yuan medical devices from EU, up 99.3% YOY, accounting for 36.9% of the total import value; the import from Germany reached 110 million Yuan, up 130.8%. In addition, the import from the U.S. reached 170 million Yuan, up 71.4% YOY, accounting for 30.7%; the import from Japan reached 100 million Yuan, up 116.8% YOY, accounting for 16.6%.

(4) The most imported were massage apparatuses and color ultrasonic diagnostic apparatuses. In October, Guangdong imported 87.64 million Yuan massage apparatuses, up 186.7% YOY, accounting for 16.3% of the total import value; imported 74.62 million Yuan color ultrasonic diagnostic apparatuses, up 201.9%, accounting for 13.9%; imported other medical devices, surgical or veterinary instruments worth 59.89 million Yuan, up 32.7% YOY, accounting for 11.1%.
