Guangdong Tire Export Down Mildly in April 2017

According to China Customs statistics for January-April 2017, Guangdong Province exports of new rubber tires totaled 13.24 million pieces, up 6% year-on-year (YOY); valued CNY 1.18 billion, up 15.5% YOY. Monthly, January-February quantity went down, March quantity rose sharply to 4.04 million pieces, and April quantity fell again to 3.424 million pieces, down 4.3% YOY and 15.2% from Mar. (See the chart below).

Characteristics of the tire export in April:
(1) More than 70% were exported by processing trade. In April, Guangdong exported 2.561 million tires by processing trade, down 8.3% YOY, accounting for 74.8% of the total export; exported 435,000 tires by ordinary trade, down 13.2%, accounting for 12.7%.
(2) United States was the largest export market, and export to Africa increased. In April, Guangdong exported 1.202 million tires to the United States, down 13.4% YOY, accounting for 35.1% of the total; exported 652,000 tires to the EU, accounting for 19%; exported 564,000 tires to Africa, up 13.8% YOY, accounting for 16.5%.
(3) Bike tires and passenger car tires exported less in quantity and more in price, motorcycle tires quantity and price increased both. In April, export of bicycle tires reached 987,000 pieces, down 18% YOY, worth 17.24 million yuan, down 6.3% YOY, with average export price 17.5 yuan/piece, up 14.3% YOY; export of passenger car tires 660,000 pieces, down 7.5% YOY, worth 110 million yuan, down 0.2% YOY, with average export price 171.3 yuan/piece, up 7.9% YOY; export of motorcycle tires reached 471,000 pieces, up 52.1% YOY, worth 45.04 million yuan, up 88.4% YOY, with average price 95.6 yuan/piece, up 23.9% YOY.
