APEC Port Service Network Launched in Ningbo

According to the decision of the Transportation Working Group of APEC, the establishment meeting and the 1 st council meeting of APEC Port Service Network, proposed by Ningbo City to the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People??s Republic of China, were held in Ningbo from November 3 to November 5. It is the 1 st integrative and opening organization of transport industries in Asian-Pacific Region. The establishment meeting of APEC Port Service Network is sponsored by the Ministry of Transport of the People??s Republic of China and organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People??s Republic of China and Ningbo Municipal People??s Government. Fourteen council members appointed by APEC member economies, and their following staff, attended the 1 st council meeting. The council meeting discussed and passed procedure rules of the net, objective pronouncement, working plan in 2009, organization strategy and long-term planning, and examined and approved the applications of the general members. A cutting ribbon ceremony was held at the meeting and 74 general mbers of the 1 st batch were awarded the membership certificaties. Mr. Rysanek, the chairman of the first council meeting, stated on the meeting that the network is to advance the development of ports and supporting industries in APEC region through reorganization, raise the convenience and freedom of trade and transportation of the logistic system with ports as nodes, improve the security level of the supply chain with ports as nodes, promote the development of trade and economy in APEC region and the common prosperity of economy of all members of APEC. The network will offer an outstanding and high effective information service, compile an annual report of ports in APEC region, construct a port database of APEC region, hold forums and seminars, provide a technical support and experience exchange platform, organize studies and trainings among ports in APEC region, and hold exhibitions, conferences, negotiations, and other promotion events on port and shipping industries, so as to advance the promotion of products and technologies, as well as to enhance the cooperation of trade and investment in APEC region.
