October Monthly Steel Fact Sheet

The preliminary data released today show that overall steel imports in October 2008 increased 0.52 percent from September 2008 . The nearly level change in October’s total amount of steel imports was due to a notable increase in imports for stainless blooms, billets, and slabs (71.22%) and carbon & alloy blooms, billets, and slabs (24.86%), offset by declines in several carbon & alloy products. The most significant decreases were in carbon & alloy reinforcing bars (-35.14%), hot rolled sheets
