June Monthly Steel Fact Sheet

The preliminary data released today show that overall steel imports in June 2008 increased 6.95 percent from May 2008 . The change in June’s total amount of steel imports was due to a relatively large increase in some goods, such as blooms, billets and slabs (34%), wire rods (58%), and standard pipe (47%). There was a significant decrease in galvanized hot dipped sheets and strip (-38%). Stainless imports decreased slightly (-4.78%), due to decreases in each individual stainless product. June 2008 imports of steel mill products were down 12.28 percent compared to June 2007.
