Chinese herbs win big bucks in Pan??an County

Pan??an County in Zhejiang Province abounds in five of the ??Eight Zhes?? (eight varieties of traditional Chinese herbs in Zhejiang) including atractylodes alba, peony alba, scrophularia, and fritillaria. The county appropriates nearly 1 million yuan to develop Chinese herb industry each year. The planting area of traditional Chinese herbs in the county has reached 60,000 mu (1 mu equals 0.165 acre), generating 200 million yuan every year, with gastrodia and fritillaria cultivating area both extending over 5,000 mu.



More than 3,000 people in the county have been engaged in the trading of Chinese herbs in domestic markets like Guangdong, Anhui and Sichuan. Characteristic Products Market and Xinwo Traditional Chinese Herbs Market in Pan??an have sold Chinese herbs throughout the country and exported them to over 10 countries and regions like Japan, South Korea and Singapore. The county??s exports of Chinese herbs topped US$6.4 million in 2007.
