The success of China International Hardware Show is much leveled by the current international trade in hardware. Exports were up by almost 40% with the U.S. staying at the top for export market, while imports grew by approximately 25%. Another trend that attests to the growth in this sector is the entry and expansion of foreign hardware and DIY retail chains into China. It is estimated that there are now over 100 large home improvement stores in China, with B&Q, Home Depot and Ace Hardware vying for a slice of this market.
More recently, the Chinese economy is forecast (by Economist Intelligence Unit ) to see a GDP growth of 9.3% in 2005, underpinned by exports and investments, though a slight dip to 8% in 2006 is expected as the government*s efforts to curb overinvestment takes effect. The Chinese market remains a viable sourcing ground for both hardware tools and home improvement manufacturers and suppliers. The Chinese National Interior Decoration Association postulates that the average Chinese consumer spent some US$50 billion in home d谷cor and DIY supplies in 2004 每 an increase of 65% from 2003.
