According to the preliminary statistics from General Administration of Customs, influenced by Spring Festival, the import of soybean in China dropped to 3.03 million tons in January, down 12%. The other import agricultural product in January was also lower than that in 2008.
The output of soybean in China was 16.5o million tons, up 30%. The government has announced to purchase 6 million tons home-grown soybean to protect farmers’ profit.
In accordance with analyst, the import soybean in February and March may exceed 3 million tons, because the government support to purchase home-grown soybean and sustain domestic price to attract the trade companies’ attention to import soybean in lower price.
