Dalian Port Handles 28 pct More Containers in 2008

Dalian Port (PDA) Co Ltd. said on Thursday total container throughput at its terminals rose 28.3 percent year-on-year to 5.452 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in 2008. The terminal operator said container throughput at its Dalian port in northeastern China rose 18.1 percent to 4.399 million TEUs while throughput at its other ports doubled to 1.053 million TEUs, without giving further details. The company also said total oil and liquefied chemicals throughput rose 1.3 percent year-on-year to 34.863 million tonnes in 2008.
Shares of Dalian Port fell 3.2 percent on Thursday afternoon, against a 4.1 percent decline in the benchmark Hang Seng Index.
