Port of Xiamen Box Volume Surpasses 5 Million TEU

THE Port of Xiamen's container volume came to five million TEU by December 27, up 10.3 per cent over the same period a year ago, Xinhua reported.
From 2006 to 2008, Xiamen invested CNY8.2 billion (US$1.2 billion) on building new deep water berths and channels to enhance port facilities. The port has 37 berths that can handle 50,000-tonne vessels, 21 that can deal with those of 100,000 tonnes. The largest berth can accommodate ships of 150,000 tonnes. The port's sailing channel has a depth of 14 metres.
From January to November 2008, the port handled 586 vessels of over 100,000 tonnes, up 26.6 per cent year on year.
